It has been WAY too long since I posted last. Last year was a HUGE undertaking for me and took up ALL of my time...literally! On October 6, 2012 I held the 4th annual CNY Cake Competition as well as had our first ever LIVE challenge! It was sponsored by Domino Sugar and was appropriately named the Domino Sugar All American Classic Edible Fashion Runway Competition. That's right...we had 4 teams that were made up of a college fashion program student and a TV celebrity cake artist. They were asked to create a unique dress design that followed the all American classic design style for a model to wear down our runway....but that's not all. It had to be made out of 5 edible products!!! They included SugarVeil Confectionery Icing, PhotoFrost Edible image paper, Callebaut Chocolate in any form, ChocoPans fondant, gumpaste and/or modeling chocolate, Get Sassie's Isomalt Sugar and our 6th surprise ingredient revealed at the show....4 hours into it....was Crystalized Flower Company with their beautiful sugar flowers. It was a huge task. They were able to complete 75% of their outfits before the show but the last 25% had to be done on site in only 8 hrs. The results were spectacular!!! This event helped raise money for Domestic Violence as the funds raised went to 2 local organizations - The Advocacy Center in Ithaca and Cortland Aid to Victims of Violence. We raised over $4100!!! On my website you can see pictures of all of the outfits on the Domino Sugar Event Photos Page at www.cnycakedecorating.com.
You can also see the unbelievable cakes from last year's show as well that were made in the theme 1950's Music!!!
Here are a couple of links to some videos of the events from the day!!!

Four teams will be battling to have their cake served at The Wild Animal Park and Experience's Customer Appreciation Party!!! They will have 4 hours to complete their cakes that will be able to feed 500 people! Come out to support the teams and compete in this year's baking and/or decorating competitions. Early registration ends on July 26th but you can register up until September 25th. Our 5th annual cake competition will be held on October 5th at The Shops at Ithaca Mall in Ithaca, NY so make your plans today!!! Hope to see you there. Oh, and the 3 cakes that do not take first place will be served at $1 a slice to help support Icing Smiles organization.

Student Cake Showcase!
These are some cakes from a class group that I taught last year. Check out the skills that this group has!
Student Cake Showcase!
Bonnie took my Course 1 class. She prefers her cakes iced with a homestyle appeal....and she rocks at it! This is a wedding cake and groom's cake (I believe) that she did this year.
Student Cake Showcase!
Another past student of mine that I would like to highlight is Deb. Deb is very detail oriented and loves her work to be clean. Here are a few of the cakes that Deb did for class as well as on her own. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Student Cake Showcase from 2010!
I am quite behind on putting up some of my past students cakes that were sent to me. One of my students from 2010 did some amazing work and I feel it should be showcased. Christine was a great student with a lot of natural talent and it truly shows in her work!
I will be loading more photos of Christine's work shortly so stay tuned!
